TEHRAN – Senior Iranian lawmaker Mojtaba Zolnouri has denounced the terrorist onslaught launched by Zionists against the Iranian consulate in Syria, warning that the Zionist regime would rue its actions.

During a public session on Monday, the Deputy Speaker of the Iranian Parliament declared that the Israeli regime will regret its heinous crime against Iran.

He emphasized that the Zionist regime would face profound regret for its assault on the embassy, which tragically led to the martyrdom of Lieutenant General Zahedi and his fellow soldiers.

Last Monday, Israeli warplanes launched a devastating airstrike on the consular annex of Iran's embassy in Damascus. This brazen act of aggression resulted in the loss of 13 lives, including seven members of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps stationed on a mission in Syria. The strike has sent shockwaves throughout the region, further exacerbating tensions between the two adversaries.

In response to this egregious violation of international law and conventions, Iranian officials have vehemently reiterated the country's inherent right to deliver a resolute and proportional response.

Zolnouri also lauded the unwavering bravery of the Iranian people on Quds Day as millions of Iranians across the country held huge rallies to express solidarity with Palestinians and condemn Israeli crimes.

This year, Quds Day garnered increased attention due to the ongoing Israeli atrocities in Gaza, underscoring the urgency of the Palestinian cause.

Israel initiated its U.S.-backed military offensive on besieged Gaza on October 7, following the Palestinian Resistance group's Operation Al-Aqsa Storm in retaliation for intensified Israeli atrocities against Palestinians. The ongoing aggression has resulted in the death of at least 33,175 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, with 75,886 others injured, according to the latest statistics from the Gaza health ministry.

The conflict has resulted in 85% of Gaza's residents being internally displaced, facing severe scarcities of essential resources like food, clean water, and medicine, as the majority of the region's infrastructure lies in ruins.
